Tu Nidito is Spanish for "Your Little Nest" and was named in honor of six-year-old Jimmy Busey, who had a rare form of cancer.
When doctors said there was nothing more they could do in the hospital for Jimmy, he was sent home. Jimmy's mom knew he was apprehensive about leaving the hospital. To reassure him, she promised to create a special place for Jimmy in the corner of their sectional sofa, a few pillows, his favorite blanket, some toys and a spot that was especially for Jimmy. Jimmy and his mom called it his little nest. Financial strains and logistical considerations in getting Jimmy back and forth to the hospital resulted in the family moving several times during his illness. But no matter where they lived, Jimmy's nest was a constant. That's where Jimmy stayed until the day he died.
This story, at once heartbreaking and beautiful, is how we got our name. And yet, the power and deep significance of our name does not end there. The words “your little nest” have evolved into the ultimate analogy of what we actually do here, day-in and day-out, as an agency. At Tu Nidito, we build for families the most sacred and life sustaining of containers; we build them Nests.
