Tu Nidito offers support
groups for children and teenagers
who are grieving the death
of a loved one. We provide
a safe place where children
who are grieving a death
can share their loss experiences
in a caring, supportive environment.
Our grief support services
extend to the entire family,
other caregivers, schools,
and the greater community.
A grieving child may be feeling disoriented, sad, angry, frustrated and guilty.
Occasionally, a child will experience sudden and severe loss of self-esteem and
will resort to uncharacteristic non-performance or over achievement. For a variety
of reasons, children often mask these feelings behind a façade of normalcy. Unattended
to childhood grief can manifest itself in anti-social and self-destructive behaviors,
as well as emotional disorders.
Families meet twice a month to take part in age appropriate support and activities
for children ages 3 ½ -18 years of age. Approximately 15 children or teens comprise
each support group. The ratio of child to volunteer facilitator is 2:1 for children
and 3:1 for teens. Parents or caregivers meet in a separate but concurrent group. Each
group meets twice a month on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 6:45
– 8:15pm.
