Meet the Children

Each year, the Fashion Show features Tu Nidito children modeling their favorite Halloween costumes in a runway walk. This unique opportunity gives children the chance to forget about their problems for a short time and have fun.

TYRA

Seven-year-old Tyra is an extremely outgoing and active little girl. She loves skating and riding her bicycle. Her favorite games are Scrabble and Operation. Her favorite colors are pink, yellow, and purple.

Tyra began attending Tu Nidito’s Children to Children program after her mommy died in an accident while serving in the military.  After spending time with other children who have experienced similar losses, she is able to talk about her mother in more detail. Tu Nidito’s Children to Children program provides a safe, comfortable environment for children like Tyra to process their grief and heal.

ANAYA

Ten year old Anaya is the oldest of three children and is an excellent big sister.Anaya is very outgoing and creative. She loves all sports and enjoys playing many types of games.  Anaya especially enjoys watching movies.  One of her favorite sports is softball which she is very good at! Her favorite color is red.

Four years ago Anaya came down with a fever and was sent to the school nurse.  What her parents initially thought was a common cold turned into much more for Anaya and her family. She was diagnosed with leukemia. Anaya’s life drastically changed after her diagnosis; her days included long visits at the hospital and as a result of her treatment she lost all her hair. After chemo therapy, it seemed Anaya’s condition improved. Unfortunately, last year she relapsed and underwent a bone marrow transplant. She is currently doing well, her prognosis is great and she is planning on going back to school in the fall.

Anaya and her family receive one-on-one support from a Tu Nidito social worker. The social worker helps each family member through the difficulty and stress of diagnosis, changes in prognosis and course of treatment.
