Book Recommendations for a Grieving Child

February 12, 2018

Here at Tu Nidito, parents, teachers, and community members frequently ask us what they can do to help support a grieving child. Our staff has found that books are a great way to promote conversation and help normalize children’s feelings. Below is a list of books that Tu Nidito staff have found most conducive in helping children explore their grief. Most of these books are intended for children 12 and younger, but the topics and sentiments are relevant to grieving teens and adults too.

1. The Invisible String
2. Tear Soup
3. Turned Upside Down
4. Badger’s Parting Gifts
5. The Tenth Good Thing About Barney (Can be applied to pet and human loss)
6. When a Pet Dies (exclusive to pet loss)
