Volunteers are the heart of Tu Nidito

Tu Nidito would not be able to pursue our vision of ensuring no child grieves alone without the time, expertise and dedication of committed volunteers. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities that vary in scope, frequency and time commitment. Many volunteers report that their work is deeply rewarding, and that they truly feel like they are making an impact on the lives of Tu Nidito children and families.

Volunteer Opportunities Include…

All volunteers interested in working directly with Tu Nidito families must be a minimum of 16 years old, able to meet criminal background check requirements, commit to volunteer for the minimum time specified for that position and complete a volunteer training session.

Direct Care Volunteers work directly with children, teens, young adults, and caregivers impacted by the diagnosis of a serious medical condition or the death of someone special. Positions include:

  • Support Group Facilitators who work as a team and with the guidance of an on-site staff member to facilitate activities and discussion for children, teens, and/or caregivers in the evenings.
  • One-on-One Volunteers provide respite, play and can include various roles, from emotional and social support, compassionate play and companionship to children who have been diagnosed with a serious medical condition and their families. The day, time, location, and frequency of visits vary by family need.
  • Therapy Dog Teams participate in groups as an added element of comfort to families. Additional roles may be needed in one-on-one support and events.

Internships are available for credits to a limited number of undergraduate students each semester. Intern roles focus on developing workplace administrative skills, and participate in both Direct and Indirect volunteer roles.

Indirect Care Volunteers work behind the scenes to ensure all our programs and events have the administrative and financial support they need to be successful. Positions include:

  • Event Support Event and Outreach Support for special events that benefit Tu Nidito and broaden our visibility to potential families, volunteers and donors.
  • Office Support volunteer tasks may include detailed data entry, gift processing, organizing, answering phones, preparation of mailings or materials for groups/one-on-one services, research, development support, and more.
  • Board of Directors Board of Directors have full authority for determining, implementing and monitoring policies which govern Tu Nidito’s total operation, and ensuring that service delivery is consistent with acceptable standards of practice. The Board assumes total fiduciary responsibility for continuing operational and financial success of Tu Nidito. Each board member is elected on to a multi-year term and is accountable for established duties and responsibilities.
