Working Through Angry Feelings with Anger Monsters!

August 22, 2018

Anger! That feeling that boils up inside you, making you feel like you are going to explode!

Anger is a normal emotion to feel, especially when a loved one has a serious illness or when someone special dies. Sometimes, we show our angry feelings by yelling or being rude to others. Anger Monsters are a great activity for helping kids, ages 3-12, work through their anger and calm down.

Creating Your Anger Monster

Think about how you look, feel and act when you are angry.

  • Where do you feel the anger in your body?
  • Do you scowl?
  • Do you clench your fists?
  • Do you yell or scream?

Using PlayDoh, create an anger monster. Give your monster all of the angry details you have when you feel anger.

Once you feel like your monster is complete, share it with someone and explain your choices for creating it to look a certain way.  For example: What stands out about your monster? Where do you see the anger within your monster?

Next, take a deep breath and count to three. Use your hands to smash the anger monster, releasing any angry feelings you have. This process can be repeated as often as needed!
